What is a Unicable / One Cable Solution LNB (EN50494 / EN50607)?

Answer

A Unicable (One Cable Solution) LNB lets multiple satellite receivers share a single coaxial cable, with each tuner assigned its own dedicated frequency slot (user band) on that cable. It is standardized as EN50494 (Unicable I, typically up to 8 user bands) and EN50607 (Unicable II / JESS, typically up to 32 user bands). This dramatically simplifies wiring in multi-room and multi-dwelling installations.

In a traditional setup, each independent tuner needs its own cable back to the LNB or multiswitch. Unicable instead translates each requested channel into a fixed frequency slot on one shared cable; the receiver tells the LNB (via DiSEqC commands) which user band and which channel it wants, and the LNB places that transponder at the assigned frequency.

EN50607 (Unicable II / JESS) expands capacity to as many as 32 user bands and adds features that make cascading and configuration easier, suiting apartment blocks and hotels. When deploying Unicable, every receiver must be Unicable-compatible and each must be assigned a unique, non-overlapping user band to avoid conflicts on the shared line.
